Assessment

Well-designed and effective assessments are a vital part of supporting student learning and ensuring graduate readiness to take their first steps into clinical practice and a career supported by lifelong learning.  Graduates of Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand medical schools must have achieved the graduate outcomes set by the Australian Medical Council.

Medical Deans’ Assessment Working Group comprises members from a large number of medical schools and provides advice, strategic direction, and support for a number of collaborative initiatives, including:

  • Workshops to support capacity building and skills development of medical education assessment expertise
  • Ability for schools to calibrate elements of their student performance with other schools and the AMC’s IMG assessment
  • Collaboration with the LIME Network, Indigenous Health leads and Indigenous education experts to support schools’ work on assessing capabilities in Indigenous health and culturally safe care.

Related Community of Practice

An extensive and active Network of medical education leads working in medical schools across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand who connect to share information, experiences, ideas and resources via a dedicated Medical Deans’ Basecamp portal, and who are a source of advice and insights to their colleagues and to Medical Deans.
